Financial Resilience for Women and Coastal Youth

Comunidad y Biodiversidad, A.C. (COBI) invites you to participate in this call for proposals aimed at presenting and strengthening productive initiatives or climate-adaptation projects. The objective is to enhance the financial and digital capacities of women and youth in small-scale fishing communities across the Mexican Caribbean, fostering their autonomy, leadership, and active participation in the sustainability and resilience of their communities. At the end of the process, and following an evaluation and selection period, a seed fund will be awarded to the two highest-rated initiatives.

Who Can Participate?
This call is aimed at individuals who have successfully completed the resilience training program “Financial Strengthening for Youth and Women in Fishing Communities.”
Eligible applicants include: Women aged 18 and older living in the fishing communities of Cozumel, Banco Chinchorro, Chetumal, or Xcalak. Men between 18 and 29 years old residing in the same communities. Individuals interested in strengthening their financial and digital skills, as well as developing community projects related to productivity, economic growth, or climate change adaptation.
Areas of Support and Benefits
Selected participants will receive support in: Mentorship to strengthen their projects. Guidance in the search for funding opportunities. Connections with donors and strategic partners. Seed funding for the two selected projects. Access to networks and future funding opportunities.

Submit a motivation letter (maximum one page) expressing your interest in participating in the project and how you would apply what you have learned within your community.

Official identification (INE, passport, identity card, or any document that verifies your identity).

Proof of address that confirms your residence in the community (utility bill, etc.).

Selection Process and Criteria
Pre-registration of initiatives
From June 20, 2025, to July 20, 2025, preliminary applications will be accepted.
Up to eight projects will be pre-selected to receive mentorship and strengthen their proposals.
Pre-selected initiatives will be announced on July 23, 2025.
Final proposal submission
From October 15 to October 30, 2025, pre-selected applicants must submit their final proposal.
A committee will evaluate all initiatives and select two winning projects to receive seed funding.
Announcement of selected projects
Within 20 business days after the final proposal submission deadline.
Evaluation Criteria
Location: The project must be implemented in Cozumel, Banco Chinchorro, or Xcalak. Leadership profile: Women (18+ years) or young men (18–29 years) as project leaders. Project profile: Innovative and sustainable initiatives focused on marine conservation, sustainable fisheries, biodiversity monitoring, sustainable coastal tourism, among others. Feasibility: Technical and financial viability, with positive impact on the community and ecosystem.
